Oh Islam! You are just so confusing.

On the same day that I read this column by The Toronto Star’s, Haroon Siddiqui, serving up his usual pastiche of the wonderful religion of peace, and, in the process chastising westerners for their ignorance of Islam by making fun of their concerns about the niquab: “On what legal basis does a democracy ban one person's veil but favour another's bikini”, I then read this story about a Sudanese female journalist facing a penalty of 40 lashes for the crime of wearing trousers in a restaurant.

I guess Mr. Siddiqui would be in no doubt what the legal basis would be in an Islamic society for banning clothing, so that is not worth writing about.

40 lashes for wearing pants is not Islam. Don't confuse the countries culture with the religion. Islam is practiced in many different countries. In Saudi Arabia, its illegal for women to drive (which I agree is fucking stupid) but it has nothing to with where in the Quran does it say that women cant drive cars (that's absolutely ridiculous) but it happens. In turkey, Syria, and Lebanon women have the choice to cover or not to cover. People are people wherever you are; there are good people and there are bad people.

I want not agree on it. I think precise post. Specially the title-deed attracted me to be familiar with the sound story.

I completely agree with the comment above. No where is prescribed in the Quran to lash out on some body for something like that, and its also one of the biggest sins to add anything to the already perfect religion, sadly though, many are doing this, because they want people to follow their misguided, narrow minded oppinions.
